Show Not Tell

W.A.L.T.... use show not tell.
In Writing, our task was to create a paragraph about times we have or would experience different types of feelings using show and not tell. Can you guess what my feelings are ?
I enjoyed writing about show not tell because it makes the reader think about what you are writing about. What I found hard was to make sure I wasn't telling the reader about what I'm implying to. Maybe next time, I'd use some figurative language.

As I walked passed the gates, sweat dripped through my new blazer, frustration was gliding itself through my body. My heart thumped so hard, my head thumped twice as fast. I had been waiting for this moment since year 7 but now I’m wanting to go back. Just as I took a glimpse of the new building, I saw friends from school. Sweat became tears of joy, frustration lowered and happiness had appeared and my heart had gone back to beating normal.

Ngatu - Tapa Cloth

This term each class is studying on a contry, our country is Tonga. In writing, our task was to write about Ngatu's which is a tapa cloth in Tonga. We were also told to write it in and information report structure. What I enjoyed was learning more about the ngatu's. Next time I could finish my writing

Ngatu Tonga

Tapa cloth is a bark cloth that is made in the islands, especially in Tonga. Tapa cloth in the Tongan language is called ‘Ngatu’. Ngatu is well known in the pacific culture. Many pasifikas use ngatu to decorate their house. Ngatu, here in New Zealand is different to the way they are made in Tonga. Ngatu are made by grandmothers, mothers and daughters. Mulberry tree (tutu) is used to make the material of the Ngatu. The ladies peel the bark from the tree. To make the bark soft, the ladies drench it into water and hang it outside to dry out. When they are soft and dry, The ladies beat the bark with a wooden tool called a ‘ike’ to form the shape of the ngatu. While beating, the bark is being rolled at the same time. After beating and rolling, it is ready to be rolled out in the sun. It’s no longer bark, it’s now called a feta’aki. Now it’s time for each lady to show their talent on making their own koka’anga. Ngatu have been a treasured and also been handed from generation to generation. For around 10 decades, Ngatu has been a iconic symbol of Pasifika. Ngatu are highly common in special occasions such as Weddings, Birthdays and mostly Funerals.

Should Cellphones Be Banned In Schools ?

W.A.L.T... Write a persusive text. In literacy, we have a serial story named 'Posted' and every week we have an activity relating to the story. This week, our task was to write a persuasive text on 'Should cellphones should be banned from schools or not'. What I have found difficult was to back up my opinions with facts. Maybe next time I could add more information to my writing and to also add a complex sentences.

Should cellphones be banned in schools ? I think they should be. In my personal opinion I strongly believe that cellphones should be banned at all schools. Many kids, think it's unfair for teachers to have their phones during class and not them. Most teachers have kids and they need to stay in contact with them. Teacher also could have moved from another country to teach, so they also have to stay in touch with their family.

Cell phones should be banned from school because they can be a huge distraction to the students during class time. Students not having their cell phones was originally a rule. It also ruins the students health. Students nowadays are kids sleeping in class because the night before they are up all night on their phone or texting.

Also cheating, cellphones in class could give children the chance to cheat on exams. In the U.S, around 33% students have used their cellphones to cheat in their tests. Cheating would not help children with their learning, in fact it would be wasting the teachers time on teaching when the students are going to cheat.

Over 43% teens around the world are getting cyberbullied in the works of cell phones. It is very horrifying to see students upset of what other students have put online about that person. Cyberbullying can also lead to suicide, depression and anxiety. Our generation is very bad because of the use of cellphones.

Therefore, that’s why I strongly believe that cellphones in all schools should be banned because it could become a distraction to the students, allow the students to cheat and could cause cyberbullying.

Something I found easy was coming up with the ideas. What I found hard was making the DLO. Next time I could add more information.

My Mother’s Love

In Room 6, we have been learning about Ballad's. Our task was to make our own Ballad's about anything but you have to tell a story. My poem is about my mother and how much she loves me. What I found hard was trying to make my sentences rhyme. What I found easy was coming up with the rhythm, my rhythm is A B A A B.  Something I could add is more language features.

My mother always seems to know whats wrong
Before I even have to tell her
My love for her is really strong
Her voice is soft like a song
Me and her together forever

She comforts me with her love when I am feeling down
And she'd try her best to make me smile
When I see her sad, it makes me frown
So I flip her frown around
And make her feel better and well

My mother had to do it all on her own
With no one to help her with the hard work
I felt sad for my mum she was all alone
It was just her to see me reach my huge milestone
But it didn't bother her, with my help we used teamwork

My mother’s one wish is for me to be successful
I will try my hardest to make that wish come true and to
make my mother proud of me
This wish is very stressful
But also my mother’s wish is very special
Because without her love I don’t know where I’d be

I don't know how I could ever repay my mother's love
she has given to me and my siblings
All I could give her is my respect
Even when my mum had nothing she kept trying
And I thank her for being there from the beginning
All the special memories I have with her, I will cherish and collect

Angles

In Room 6, we have been learning about Angles.

Our task was to make a interactive digital learning object to show what we have learned. What I found interesting was trying to understand the workings of the Angles.
Something I found hard was making my DLO really interactive.
Something I could work on is adding more information to solve angles.

Holidays

In room 6, we are writing our own recounts about our holidays. I really enjoyed writing about my holidays beacuse I really enjoyed my holidays. Something I found hard was to not use the word "then" but I did. It was so hard. Next time, I could add in some Figurative Language e.g Similies.

Family Time

On the 18 of April, me and my family went to the Margaret Mahy Park. There was so many of us we had to take 2 vehicles. The weather was beautiful that day, not too hot but just right. The sun was so shiny and scorching. I love spending time with my family a lot.

When we arrived at the park, the first thing we like to go to first is the wide slide. We raced to the slide and slid down then we would repeat probably 5 or more times. After we got tired of the wide slide, we went to the long green slide and slid down there too. We also like to play with the flying fox, jump on the trampolines and play with the water. It’s so fun! Then it’s time to go home (this is the hard part), finding all the kids. There’s 5 kids in total to look for, so me and my cousin went looking for them.

One was at the flying fox, another was at the trampolines, the other was at the wide slide and the other 2 were fighting over the circle swing. After finding all 5 kids, we got divided into twos and got into the cars and went back home to get ready for practice.

We had to go practice we had no choice, we were practicing for White Sunday (everyone’s not favourite time of the year). Our White Sunday teachers would give us paragraphs from the Bible to memorize. It was so hard. I was so lucky I got less cause my mother is my teacher for this year. We start our practice with a prayer,we begin from the little kids hymns. Next we have us older kids to do the Bible verses, after that we have our action songs to do.

Later on, when we had completed everything. Our youth leader had requested if we wanted to do something, we wanted to go to the Park and he agreed. It was dark time, that’s the time when we like to go to the park. We all went home and got changed, then we all met at the park. Every parent comes with their own snacks to feed their own kids, we got pizza and frozen cokes. It had been 2 and half hours later and everyone was getting sick of playing, so we all went home.

It’s so fun spending so much time with my family, they just bring joy into me. My holidays were mostly spent with my whole family.
